Fine Living Friday: Our Favorite Natural Scents to Make Our Home Smell Amazing
Over the holidays, we made mulled wine on our stovetop. It was a delicious libation to sip on during the cold December evenings, but it also made our house smell delightful! The simmering concoction filled our home with notes of apples, citrus and cinnamon.
We got to thinking, what are some other natural ways to make our homes smell amazing? Here are a few of our favorites.
A Simmer Pot
Using a simmer pot is a fun, all-natural method to spread a warm, inviting fragrance throughout your home. Simply place aromatic ingredients, such as fruits, herbs and spices, in a cooking pot, add water, and let it simmer. The aroma will greet your visitors, making them feel cozy and welcome.

Fresh or Dried Florals
Fresh flowers like peonies, lilies and roses, are the perfect natural way to make your home smell fresh. You can also achieve those pleasant floral smells from dried florals. We love fragrant homemade potpourri. Here's a great diy potpourri recipe from HGTV:

Fresh baked cookies
Baking a batch of cookies can make your house smell heavenly, but it may not be practical to do every day. If you don't want to bake constantly but still want that fresh baked scent without the abundance of sugar, add 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract to an oven safe dish and cook at 300 degrees for up to an hour. Sugar cookie heaven!
Open the Windows
Want a seriously fresh home? Let in the fresh air! Allowing fresh air to enter through an open window on a pleasant day can have a remarkable impact on getting rid of unpleasant smells, and the sun's disinfecting properties will also aid in eradicating bacteria that cause odors.
