Sandbridge Ranks in Top 10 Places to Buy a Vacation Home

It’s still a good idea to buy the beach house!

According to REALTOR® Magazine, and CNBC agrees, “investment properties in beachside communities offer the highest ROI potential.” And Sandbridge, situated within the City of Virginia Beach as the southernmost beach, ranks Number Three on the list of the best places to buy a vacation home in 2023. The good news: There's still time to buy the beach house.

Aside from the great return on investment (ROI), there are many reasons to love Sandbridge. It’s a great place for vacation, recreation, a day trip, or even to live.

Secluded & quiet

Sandbridge is a barrier island community separated from the hustle and bustle by Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. With one road in and out, Sandbridge doesn’t have nearly the number of tourists or commercial activity that the Oceanfront Resort Area has.

Pristine Beaches

Sandbridge has some of the widest beaches in all of Virginia Beach, thanks in part to routine “beach nourishment.” These wide beaches and natural dunes help protect the shoreline and the houses in Sandbridge, but they also allow for maximum beach day enjoyment. We’ve never seen the beaches at Sandbridge overcrowded.

Beyond the Beach

The City of Virginia Beach maintains two fairly large parking lots in Sandbridge, making access to the beach a breeze. If you’re not up for a day on the beach, though, there’s still plenty to do. There’s the fishing pier at Little Island Park, which is great for fishing or checking out the views. To the south of Little Island Park is False Cape State Park, one of the last remaining undeveloped areas along the Atlantic coast. The Park is 3.844 acres and has 5.9 miles of beach, terminating at the North Carolina state line.

Beautiful Houses

Sandbridge is a place where you can find some really distinctive beach architecture. Homes in Sandbridge range from small bungalows to condos to 14-bedroom beach-front mansions. Just as they do with boats (and sometimes cars), many name their homes. Ranging from the practical (Atlantic Escape or Healing Breezes) to the fanciful (Plan Sea or Atta-Buoy), naming a beach house serves as a notable landmark or allows guests to create memories with an attachment. Watersports

Other popular activities in Sandbridge are pedaling along in the bike bike lanes on Sandpiper Road, renting kayaks or paddle boards, or even a jet ski, for exploration of Back Bay, or grabbing a snack at the Sugar Shack or Sandbridge Seaside Market.

The Off-Season

What if you can’t make it to Sandbridge during the summer? The off-season is a prized time for locals. The tourist population falls off after Labor Day, but the weather and the water is still warm. Catch a sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean or a sunset over Back Bay from Baja Restaurant. You could even “test drive” what it’s like to live full-time in Sandbridge with a winter rental.

Sandbridge has something for everyone.
